WORLD RESCUE CHALLENGE
16.10.2023 – 21.10.2023
16.10.2023 – 21.10.2023
The island of Lanzarote is hosting the World Rescue Challenge in October, 2023, an event that will initially take place in the Plaza de las Naciones in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen.
We consider Plaza de las Naciones is an ideal place to welcome the participating teams, since they come from many countries and speak different languages, although they are united by a powerful concept which is saving human lives.
We are pleased to receive and bring together rescue and emergency professionals from different parts of the world to share, to learn and to exchange information in order to develop their skills in effective post-crash intervention and the development of combined rescue and medical care.
We hope to build on the amazing WRC 2022 which was held in Luxembourg, and look forwarding to welcoming even more teams and more participants representing more countries. Make sure you register your team Now.
We are helping to expand this important event for teams in order to enable teams to enhance skills and compete by performing under realistic conditions and measured against recognised global standards.
I am sure that the Lanzarote Security and Emergencies Consortium will do a magnificent work, as usual, in collaboration with the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Professional Association of Traffic Rescue.
The Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium assumes with responsibility and enthusiasm the organisation of this year’s World Rescue Challenge 2023, which is scheduled to be held on our island in autumn.
Until the event takes place, our daily work in the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium is the same as in the other teams. This consists of preparing ourselves thoroughly to improve our ability to act effectively after a traffic accident, especially when we must proceed to the release of victims of a wrecked vehicle.
Therefore, training is a central aspect in emergencies, so we must be alert and well prepared to carry out any eventuality that arises, especially after a traffic accident that requires harmonizing rescue with medical care.
As hosts of this event, we hope that the Lanzarote edition will be remembered as a success of participation and as a meeting in which all the registered teams share, learn and exchange knowledge in order to save lives, which is our reason for being.

President of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium
Forged by sea and fire, Lanzarote is the easternmost of the Canary Islands, a place marked by the intense volcanic activity of its past, responsible for the incredible lunar landscapes that have made it internationally famous. It is the different island, a true spectacle of nature that everyone should visit once in a lifetime. Thanks to its geographical location, Lanzarote enjoys more than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, a climate of eternal spring that guarantees pleasant temperatures and long, sunny days.
In Lanzarote contrasts reign. Craters and lava fields in black and ochre tones coexist with beaches of golden sand and turquoise waters, the bright blue of the sky and the white of its villages of low houses that have preserved the best of traditional architecture. Art and nature merge on this island touched by the genius of a universal artist, César Manrique, who taught the world to admire the unusual beauty of the island.
If the Timanfaya National Park, the great geological monument of Lanzarote, is a pure expression of the power of nature, the nuances of the island can be seen in its Art, Culture and Tourism Centers, a network of unique spaces designed by Manrique. It is essential to visit the Jameos del Agua, an authentic Garden of Eden inside a volcanic tunnel, but also always mysterious Cueva de los Verdes or the Cactus Garden, an old quarry that today houses more than 4,500 specimens of cacti from all over the world.
The good climate of Lanzarote allows you to enjoy its delicious beaches to the fullest, since the water temperature remains warm and stable all year round. An unforgettable sunset in the coves of Papagayo or a surf session in the waves of Famara are some of the suggestions, without forgetting the beaches that surround the tourist areas of Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. And if what we are looking for is a total disconnection we can take a boat to the small island of La Graciosa, one of the last places in Europe where there is no asphalt.
Off the coast, the interior of the island is an opportunity to discover its charming villages and the agricultural tradition of the island, which has given us a cuisine that tastes like sea and countryside. In La Geria, a surprising and unique wine landscape, the ingenuity of the farmers has managed to make volcanic Malvasia vineyards sprout from the ashes of Timanfaya that produce excellent wines of international fame.
